Boise State took the field for the 2010 Fiesta Bowl a 7 point underdog to TCU. This was familiar territory for the Bronco’s having entered the 2007 Fiesta bowl as a 7 point under dog to Oklahoma.
Andy Dalton, TCU’s quarterback had thrown just 10 interceptions in his previous 29 games. Boise State was able to force 3 picks, one was returned for a touchdown and the final one came in the 4th quarter with under 30 seconds to play. These would prove to be the difference in a game where the stats were otherwise very similar.
Both defenses were able to stop the run with Boise State rushing for just 77 yards and TCU a pedestrian 36. The passing game for both teams was working much better with Boise State passing for 240 yards and TCU 272.
Going into the 2010 bowl season for the first time in several years it was considered that the BCS had properly selected the top two teams to play for the national title. Texas ranked #2 and Alabama #1. I agree with them but if we are to learn anything from tonights game its that we still need a playoff system for College Football! Now that Boise State is 14-0 on the season how can they not get a shot to be #1 via a playoff system?
It won’t happen anytime soon but lets hope we get a playoff system.
