The final score of tonights Orange Bowl doesn’t really tell how this game played out. Iowa won 24-14 but the real story is how they were able to hold the vaunted Georgia Tech offense to just 155 total yards. The Yellow Jackets didn’t score their first touchdown until 12:30 to play in the 4th quarter.
Ricki Stanzi returned from an ankle injury to throw for 231 yards with two touch downs and one interception, which was returned by Jerrard Terrant 40 yards for a touchdown. Iowa had more than their defense and passing game clicking rushing for 172 yards and one touchdown.
In the end Iowa’s defense was to much for a Georgia Tech team that seemed to have no answers. At times it seemed like the Hawkeye’s had played against the option all season. They played much of the game in Georgia Tech’s backfield sacking quarterback Josh Nesbitt twice and consistently forcing him to make quick decisions.
Its easy to say this game lived up to the hype because there really was no hype. I think these teams were deserving of much more coverage than they received, even with the National Title game around the corner.
whole game. Nesbitt will have nightmares tonight
