Gray Maynard is a top contender in the lightweight division. With his split decision victory over Nate Diaz he’s now 9-0. He has victories over other top contenders such as Roger Huerta, Jim Miller, Rich Clementi and Frankie Edgar. Talk of The Bully fighting BJ Penn for the 155 pound title has been bouncing around MMA circles for a few months.
The way Penn has been fighting since his loss to St. Pierre leaves room to doubt anyone as a legitimate contender. The Prodigy has an aura of invincability reminiscent of Tyson in the 80’s. He looks unbeatable right now, period.
Does anyone still think Maynard deserves a shot at Penn? The jury of Dana White and Joe Silva will let us know soon.
