Its hard to imagine a day when Saints fans were embarrassed to be seen at the games. In 1980 the Saints lost 14 straight games and fans, at the urging of a local columnist, wore brown paper bags over their heads. They wrote things like “Forever the Aints” or “I couldn’t give away my tickets” on the bags.
That was then, this is now. Todays Saints are headed to the NFC Championship game for the second time in 4 years. Tonights dismantling of the Cardinals defense reminded us why they entered the post season as the #1 seed. We knew the Saints had a great offense, perhaps what is more impressive was the defensive. Arizona scored two touchdowns in the first half and were shut out in the second half. The tandem of Kurt Warner and Matt Leinart were held to just 266 passing yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
Arizona was not able to get their running game going either with only 101 yards on 15 attempts. If you take away Hightowers 70 yard run you have 31 yards on 14 attempts. That’s only an average of 2.21 yards per carry. If New Orleans can play defense at this level they’re going to give the winner of Dallas vs Minnesota a lot of trouble!
Next weeks NFC Championship game should be fantastic!
